MRCAC Webinar Series

Forensic Interviewer Webinar Series - Spring 2012

MRCAC has partnered with Thomas D. Lyon, J.D., Ph.D., and Elizabeth Ahern, M.A., who will provide a series of webinars that will cover the Ten-step interview and review research and practice regarding recantations and reluctance, the use of dolls and drawings, eliciting details without direct questions, and other topics.

The Webinars will be at 10:25-11:25 Fridays PST (12:25 -1:25 CST, 1:25-2:25 EST) and will occur every week from January 20 to April 13. (With the exception of March 16th) Calls will be archived and made available.

Thomas D. Lyon, PhD, JD: Thomas D. Lyon, J.D., Ph.D. is the Judge Edward J. and Ruey L. Guirado Chair in Law and Psychology at the University of Southern California.  His research interests include child abuse and neglect, child witnesses, and domestic violence.  He is the Past-President of the American Psychological Association’s Section on Child Maltreatment (Division 37) and a former member of the Board of Directors of the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children. He has published over 30 papers in law reviews, psychology journals, and books, has authored or co-authored over 50 research presentations at psychology and law conferences, and has conducted over 100 trainings with judges, attorneys, law professors, social workers, psychologists, and reporters.  His work has been supported by the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the United States Department of Justice, the National Center on Child Abuse and Neglect, the California Endowment, and the Haynes Foundation.

Elizabeth Ahern: Elizabeth Ahern is a PhD candidate in developmental psychology at the University of Southern California.  She researches children's disclosure of maltreatment, truth induction methods, and emergent lie telling ability.  Elizabeth is also a child interviewing specialist, conducts trainings on child forensic interviews and leads free monthly webcasted child forensic interview peer reviews.
