The Midwest Regional CAC Peer Review Program connects professionals nationwide to share expertise and receive feedback on cases. Sessions are moderated by experienced CAC professionals and conducted via Microsoft Teams, a HIPAA-compliant platform.

Session Schedule

Runs January 1 – December 31

  • 29 Forensic Interview Peer Review sessions
  • 4 Medical Peer Review sessions
  • 2 SANE Peer Review sessions
  • 2 Spanish-Speaking Forensic Interview sessions
  • 1 Interviewing Individuals with Disabilities session

Duration:
Medical & SANE: 1 hour
All others: ~90 minutes


Expectations

  • Attend at least 9 sessions per year
  • Present cases on a rotating basis
  • Commit for the full year
    (If you can’t present on your assigned date, find a substitute.)

Cost

  • $165 per CAC annually (per site, not per individual)
  • Includes unlimited participation for CAC staff & MDT partners.
  • Free CME credit: 1 hour per Medical & SANE Peer Review session.

Funding & Program Continuity

Peer Review is coordinated by Midwest Regional Children’s Advocacy Center (MRCAC) under a cooperative agreement between the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Children’s Minnesota. We are awaiting DOJ funding for the next cycle. If funding is not awarded or significantly delayed, MRCAC may be unable to offer Peer Review for the entire program year. For enrolled sites, January sessions will be offered. 


Registration

2025 Registration: Closed

2026 Registration - Returning Sites: Sites that are enrolled in the 2025 session received an invitation to re-enroll for 2026. Invoicing will not take place unless or until MRCAC receives a new award from DOJ for 2026.

2026 Registration - New Sites: Open registration for new sites will begin later than usual due to delays in award timelines. Please watch this page of our website for updates.

The purpose of forensic interview peer review is to provide Forensic and/or Child Interview Specialists and MDT Partners with an opportunity to review forensic interviews, discuss specific interview techniques, provide feedback regarding the quality of documentation, and review relevant research.

Goals of Forensic Interview Peer Review

  • Provide CAC Forensic Interviewers and MDT Professionals with the opportunity to discuss forensic interviews and provide feedback regarding those interviews in cases of suspected child abuse or neglect.
  • To increase the knowledge of forensic interviewers at Children’s Advocacy Centers nationally.
  • To enhance the quality of documentation of forensic interviews in cases of suspected child abuse.
  • Provide forensic interviewers the opportunity to network with other interviewers.

Medical Peer Review provides an opportunity for CAC Medical Professionals to discuss the interpretation of medical findings, review documentation, and provide feedback regarding the quality of documentation. The Midwest Regional CAC hosts two medically-focused peer review groups - one general and one for SANE nurses. Each peer review group meets on a monthly basis for one hour.

Goals of Medical Peer Review

  • Enhance the quality of documentation of physical findings in cases of suspected child abuse.
  • Provide the opportunity to discuss findings and interpretation of findings in cases of suspected child abuse or neglect.
  • Increase the knowledge of medical providers in Children’s Advocacy Centers nationally.
  • Provide an opportunity to discuss cases of suspected child abuse and neglect in multi-user national, multi-user regional as well as point-to-point connections.

Accreditation

In support of improving patient care, Children’s Minnesota is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Children’s Minnesota designates this enduring activity for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with their participation in the activity.

Children’s Minnesota designates this enduring activity for a maximum of 1.0 ANCC nursing contact hours. Nurses should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
