Suzanne Starling is a board certified Child Abuse Pediatrician and has spent her career collaborating with investigators, attorneys, and medical providers to improve the care and safety of victims of child abuse. Dr. Starling lectures nationally and internationally for medical, investigative, and legal audiences and has provided testimony in child abuse cases across the US. She also directs a medical consulting company providing medicolegal consultation and training and technical assistance on medical issues in the field of child abuse. Dr Starling has served as a leader in Child Abuse Pediatrics for many years. She is a charter member of the Helfer Society, an honorary society for physician specialists in child abuse. Dr. Starling helped shape the direction of the field as a past chair of the American Board of Pediatrics’ subboard on Child Abuse Pediatrics. She has authored more than 40 journal articles and book chapters in the field, as well as edited the well-respected textbook, Medical Response to Child Sexual Abuse. Dr. Starling has served as Medical Director of the child abuse program at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, and Executive Director and Medical Director at the Chadwick Center for Children and Families at Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego. She presently serves as the Medical Director of the Children’s Advocacy Center at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters in Norfolk, Virginia.
